Foreword

« Almost all so-called illnesses of the mind and soul are originally nothing other than illnesses of the body, in which the symptom of alienation of the mind and spirit has increased in a preponderant manner, while the physical symptoms have diminished, so that the result is finally a marked part, approaching that which appears in local ailments » S. Hahnemann (The Organon, 234).

.

We are experiencing a paradoxical situation: university medicine (allopathy) is increasingly powerful, both in terms of diagnostic precision (e.g. lymphocyte biology, histology, scanner, etc.) and therapeutic precision (e.g. antibiotics, hormones, psychotropic drugs, etc.), while patients feel lost, having the impression of being « cut into slices » between the different specialties, intoxicated by one-off (and expensive!) treatments, with no real logic behind what is happening to them.

.

On the other hand, « alternative medicines » (Chinese medicine, homeopathy, phyto-aromatherapy, osteopathy, psychotherapy, micronutrition) each offer elegant solutions, but without much (apparent) coherence between them.

.

A unifying concept was missing: the diathetic approach (i.e., a classification of organic fragilities and their symptoms), a true revolution in terms of understanding symptoms, the sequence of diseases, and the logic unifying the different medical practices, which we invite you to discover in this book.

.

Homeopathy is the study of the relationships between symptoms (caused by experiments or presented by illnesses) and remedies. It is a corpus of thousands of symptoms and remedies that even the most gifted will get lost in.

.

                                                  Symptoms  <——->  Remedies

.

To understand how remedies work together, it was necessary to look « behind the remedies, » their origins, constituents, etc., and « behind the symptoms, » specifying the faulty regulations. The notion of « terrain » has been continually emphasized by practitioners from all countries and eras, as it was necessary to try to systematize the divergent evolutions of patients, one in relation to the other. Each civilization thus developed its own « system » for understanding phenomena. These are obviously similar, even if there are notable differences in their modeling. For example, we mention the five « movements » of Chinese medicine, the four Hippocratic « humors, » the three homeopathic « diatheses, » and the six « phases » of homotoxicology.

.

A common advantage of these approaches is that they consider psychosomatic coupling (the association of physical symptoms and psychological behaviors) and the evolution of situations over time, according to objective logic, something Western medicine does not do—or does very little.

.
Each author of a Materia Medica has chosen a particular angle for presenting these multiple symptoms. It is therefore necessary to have several works (Kent, Voisin, Kollitsch, etc.) to grasp the different aspects of the remedies. Moreover, while most authors are content with alphabetical order, a few have ventured to group the remedies into families (Kollitsch) or branches (Scholten).

.

In our case, we used the analytical tools of TCM and developmental psychology to design the logic of the dynamic relationships that explain how remedies complement and succeed each other. In this « précis », we only develop the characteristic aspects of the polycrests (broad-spectrum remedies), one in relation to the other, leaving you to look for the details of the « satellite » remedies, each of which presents a particular action of these polycrests. For those who wish to deepen this type of study, we recommend reading the 3 volumes of our « homeopathic trilogy ».

.

The diathesis approach, designed to better understand the dynamics and meaning of clinically observed events, is difficult to develop because it must take into account two constantly opposing forces:
1/ the innate potential (the individual’s inherited genome) for adaptation, which is more or less fragile, revealed in part by a family history of diabetes, allergies, rheumatism, gout, high cholesterol, etc.
2/ the sum of physical and psychological constraints that will affect these regulations over the course of a lifetime (overwork, a diet high in fat or sugar, a sedentary lifestyle, tobacco or alcohol abuse, chronic infection or multiple vaccinations, worries, etc.).

This « Constitutional Summary of Homeopathic Materia Medica » describes this logical approach, a powerful tool for understanding, based on a biological validation method: Nutrition-Health Assessments (BNS), which objectifies the mechanisms that underlie the disorders and induce the emergence of pathological symptoms.
