Exostoses – ostéophytose


Exostosis or osteoma is most common abnormal growth of bone that extend outwards from an existing bone. It is generally painless but may cause severe pain depending of its location. Most common exostosis are bone spur or osteophytes which are bony projections that develop along bone edges.

Osteophytes under the heel – Heel spur is a bony protrusion on the underside of heel. It is about half an inch in size. It can cause pain and inflammation of part. The affected area may feel warm to touch.

Osteophytes on back of heel – It is the retrocalcaneal exostosis where the bone spur found on back of heel. This exostosis can occur when pump style shoes rub against back of heel and otherwise called as pump bump.
